Centuries (Dwij Bhardwaj) - Fall Out Boy (Guitar Cover)
16-Aug-23

Dwij is an extrmely smart child. He is one of the few students who are eager to learn more about the world of music and has the capacity to retain all the information he learns. The only thing Dwij needs to work on is practical training, one of the biggest reasons it took us 11 months to finish this video. All intelligent students face this problem. Since they have a natural flair for studies and are used to achieving big results without trying much, sometimes they face difficulty staying disciplined for months with their guitar training. Dwij faced a similar issue. Despite my telling him over and over, he did not train for 1 hour every day. But again, all children listen to 50% of what I say and ignore the other 50%. So, I hope at least now, Dwij has learned the importance of consistent daily training to make the fastest progress when it comes to the guitar. And I hope he realizes that consistency, no matter what the field, will always yield powerful results.

When we began our song, Dwij was confident he would be able to sing and play the song, so we started with Level 2. Dwij learned the play the chords quite easily, singing the song along with the chords was a little tough, but he had nailed that in 2 months as well. But the one thing that Dwij couldn't crack was Metronome. Playing the guitar, mainly his song's strumming pattern along with the metronome was a nightmare for him. I, on the other hand, was confident Dwij would get it eventually. So, I waited. Each student has a particular pace of learning. And I like giving my students enough room to breathe, so they aren't pressurized into completing a task over a deadline. I waited for 2 months for Dwij to figure out the metronome, but sadly Dwij wasn't able to master the Metronome. So, I decided to be his training wheels. I played the guitar with him and let him sync to my hand movements and to the sound of my guitar. With extreme focus and attention, he was able to sync with my guitar, but there was still one problem. Dwij had opted for Level 2, which means he had to not just play the guitar but sing as well.

Singing and guitaring and synching with my guitar over the metronome required a different kind of dexterity that Dwij's mind just couldn't handle. And I realized that this song is taking too long, Level 2 is a little too difficult for Dwij. So, we decided to switch the song to Level 1. Level 1 is where Dwij has to only play the guitar and I sing with him. And whenever a student cannot sync with the metronome on his own, I play the guitar with them in the video.

This is when I began learning his song. And since I am a slow learner as well, it took me a month to learn the song. I had a bad haircut and postponed all the video recordings for a month and finally, we were about to record the song, but we came across one more issue. One of Dwij's strumming patterns was still out of sync. It took me a while to figure out what was going wrong, but once I narrowed in on what was going wrong, and gave Dwij the solution to fix it, Dwij fixed it within a week. This was only possible because even though Dwij was not showing results for the past 11 months, he was training, which meant that his muscles and brain were growing and learning every day. This is why consistent training is so important. It takes our bodies a lot of time to learn some things. And expecting immediate results is too harsh on the body and mind. So, I request everyone to go easy on themselves, no matter what they are trying to learn. If you learn to enjoy your journey, success is just another milestone.

So, thank you Dwij, for not giving up. Your hard work and perseverance made this video possible.
